A study guide and AWCF theory course companion.

Review

Advanced farrier knowledge by Sarah Logie FWCF is a fantastic guide to all farriers and has been written with the AWCF course and examination syllabus in mind. The book starts with an essential review of musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology before embarking on the huge array of clinical conditions and pathology that farriers will encounter on a regular basis involving joints, tendons ligaments and of course diseases of the feet. Specific chapters are dedicated to Navicular disease, laminitis, developmental orthopaedic diseases and degenerative joint diseases, All conditions those working in the equine industry will come across on a regular basis. The fantastic finale to the book is in the last few chapters which dedicates itself to shoeing for the job the horse is doing, biomechanics of the foot and limb and of course, the all-important topic of foot balance and imbalance. These chapters are all accompanied with beautiful hand draw images and an excellent selection of photographs to help illustrate the points being made in the text.

The book is written in a concise format which is easy to read and absorb the information, as well as being easy to refer to and find the information you are looking for, when required. The end of each chapter helpfully comes with a few notes on what to revise for the Diploma exam, simple practical tasks and key points to take away.

Some of the medical and surgical veterinary information is occasionally needing some more up to date detail, but the essentials are all there allowing the farrier, vet and physical therapists to communicate and work well together for the benefit of the horses under their care. Encouraging the whole team approach to health and welfare.

A brilliant guide to all students, farriers, vets and equine physical therapists alike. This should be a text sitting in all veterinary practice libraries and not just on the farrier’s desk

  • 'Advanced farriery knowledge' is a concise guide for those studying towards the Worshipful Company of Farriers Associate exam. It is the first textbook to walk the student through the exam syllabus and gives guidance in areas where further reading is required.

It is a study guide associated with the AWCF theory course run by the author, in association with Farriery Tuition LTD, but it will also be an invaluable addition to those wanting a concise advanced farriery reference book to further their understanding
